What We Offer
Our Approach to speech therapy
At Texas Speech Zone, speech therapy looks and feels like play, because that’s how young children learn best!
Every session has a purpose, but the work happens through movement, hands-on activities, toys, and games that make communication feel exciting and natural. While your child is busy having fun, we’re using evidence-based strategies to skillfully build their speech and language skills.
As parents, you’ll be an important part of the therapy process. After every session, we’ll walk you through what we worked on, why it’s important, and how to keep the momentum going during everyday routines. We’ll be here to help you build communication and connection every step of the way!
-
Whether your child struggles to say certain sounds correctly (like /r/, /s/, or /l/) or uses simplification patterns (like saying “tat” for “cat”), we can help! We’ll start with a speech sound evaluation to identify their tricky sounds and determine the best way to support their speech sound development.
In speech therapy, we’ll use motivating games and hands-on activities to help your child:
Speak more clearly
Produce individual speech sounds correctly
Use sounds correctly in words, sentences, and conversation
Eliminate phonological error patterns
Communicate with confidence
-
Language therapy supports children who are not yet using words to communicate, or who struggle with understanding what they hear. We will follow your child’s lead to build language skills naturally during play and everyday routines!
In language therapy, we’ll use engaging toys, storybooks, games, and movement activities to help your child:
Express themselves using gestures, sounds, and words
Understand words and follow directions
Gain new vocabulary and combine words together
Use language to play, socialize, and connect with others
Communicate with less frustration
-
At Texas Speech Zone, we are a neurodiversity affirming practice. Our focus is on building social skills and meaningful connections in a way that feels natural and individualized to the child. Our sessions are individualized to your child’s strengths, interests, and comfort level.
In social communication therapy, we’ll use play, visuals, and structured routines to help your child:
Engage with others during activities they love
Take turns and develop play skills
Understand and use communication to express their wants and needs
Build social skills and early conversation skills
Regulate their own emotions
-
Are you looking for simple, effective ways to help your child communicate more in daily life? We’ll focus on helping you turn the things you already do each day, like playtime, mealtime, or story time, into opportunities for learning!
Our parent coaching sessions are tailored to your family’s values, routines, and goals to help with:
Recognizing and responding to your child's communication attempts
Supporting speech and language skills in natural moments
Encouraging vocabulary and sentence development
Building imitation, joint attention, and turn-taking skills
Feeling more connected to your child
Our goal is for you to leave each session feeling confident, supported, and equipped with easy strategies you can use right away!
Meet Your Speech Therapist
Rachael Baethge, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner, Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist
As a pediatric speech therapist with over 17 years of experience working with children in the schools and private practice, I’ve always been passionate about helping young children find their voices.
My goal is to make speech therapy something that your child genuinely looks forward to. At Texas Speech Zone, every session is filled with play, creativity, and movement, but behind the scenes, I’m always using evidence-based strategies to build on your child’s communication skills.
More than anything, I want each child to feel proud of their voice and every parent to feel supported and hopeful along the way. As a mom myself, I understand the heart behind wanting to help your child find their voice. And as a clinician, I’m here to give you the tools to build it, one word at a time.
It’s Easy to Get Started
Texas Speech Zone travels to serve children throughout the Houston area, including Oak Forest, Garden Oaks, Timbergrove, The Heights, and Memorial. We also work with kids online, anywhere in Texas!
-
Get started by submitting a request through the website or sending an email, and we will contact you.
We’ll learn more about your child’s needs, answer your questions, and explain how our services work. If Texas Speech Zone feels like a good fit for your family’s needs, we’ll set up an evaluation for your child.
-
Before your child’s first appointment, you will receive access to a secure online client portal to complete intake forms and share background information.
Then, we’ll meet with you and your child to evaluate their communication skills through play, observation, and standardized testing. This process allows us to get a full picture of their speech, language, and social skills.
-
After the evaluation, we’ll share our results and discuss a personalized therapy plan for your child together. Our speech therapy sessions are one-on-one, individualized, and designed to help your child make real progress in their natural environment, whether at home, school, or daycare!
-
While your child is busy working towards their goals in therapy, we will provide you with simple, practical strategies to help you carry over new skills at home! We regularly review progress and celebrate each milestone together, until your child is ready to graduate from speech therapy.
